A well defined, yet broad area of low pressure embedded within the monsoon trough proximately halfway between South America and Africa has been designated invest 96L. Recent ASCAT pass through this system shows a broad, yet fully closed circulation, thus consolidation of this disturbance would result in designation as Tropical Depression Six or Tropical Storm Emily. Recent passage of the convectively enhanced phase of a modest convectively coupled Kelvin Wave, as was the case with Tropical Storm Don, may lower unfavorable upper level westerly wind shear, increase ambient moisture in the low-mid levels, low level relative vorticity, and increase latent heating through enhancement of convection within the monsoon trough in 96L's environment. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) currently gives this a medium chance of development over the next 5 days. Development into a tropical cyclone would yet again place this season in fairly unprecedented territory wrt an unusual amount of early season development in the eastern Main Development Region of the Atlantic (along/south of 20N, east of the Lesser Antilles)...

If 96L forms, it would be a large storm. Much better looking than Don.
